UPON BEING UNABLE TO ATTEND A NEPHEW’S
WEDDING RECEPTION

Dear Julie and Mike
As much as we’d like
To join you at your reception

Though still in our prime
The passage of time
Has damaged our perfection

A journey so long
To the land of the song
Complete with our medication

Would seem much too far
And our bones it would jar
Leading to much inflammation

We do love you both
And are really quite loth
To miss your celebration

But feel that we should
Stay here in the wood*
And apply the embrocation

We are sure you can tell
We wish you both well
With lots of our affection

May your lives both be long
And filled with much song
And have the Lord’s protection

Sadly, writing in verse
Just gets steadily worse
So I’ll have to close down this section
